Merry Christmas to Doctor Who fans everywhere. 2005 draws closer and closer. Here's hoping for a Happy New Year with lots of international broadcast deals for Doctor Who episodes new & old. For now, it's the last 2 weeks of the year. Take it easy and relax.
The following message was given before, during, and after KBTC Tacoma, WA's http://www.kbtc.org final Doctor Who broadcast on the 18th:

Hello. I'm Paul Jackson, station manager here at KBTC.

It is with deep regret that I announce the end of the long running series Doctor Who. Tonight, we show the final four episodes.

Over the last several months, we've worked hard to keep the series going. But the distributor has decided to retire the broadcast rights.

I want to thank each and every one of you who faithfully supported Doctor Who on KBTC, not only with your money but also your time. It's been a wonderful relationship; one that embodies the true spirit of public broadcasting where PBS stations and their viewers partner closely together to put programs on the air that can't be seen anywhere else.

For now, you'll find British mystery at this time, beginning in January. We'll keep you updated as we move into next year. With any luck, Doctor Who will return in the not too distant future.

Again, thank you very much for your continued support, and enjoy the final broadcast of Doctor Who.

KBTC/KCKA has certainly been one of the strongest supporters of Doctor Who during the length of This Week In Doctor Who's publication history, with barely any pre-emptions and a couple of marathons each year.
I always hate to see a station drop the series, whether by choice or not. This leaves 6 public TV stations in the US still airing Doctor Who as 2005 begins, with the expectation that each will have to drop the series as contracts expire. Hopefully whatever contract negotiations are being worked on for the new series in the US will enable the old episodes to be on the air somewhere, with both reaching as many people as possible.

The remaining 6 US broadcasters (for now):
WYBE 35 Philadelphia, PA
Maryland Public TV
WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
Iowa Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
Future airings of Doctor Who (1996 TV Movie) on the Starz!
